Kimchi Salt

Whew - this one is so tasty it's hard to describe.  First, here's how we make it: we take Volcano Kimchi's Smokeshow kimchi made with Korean red chili powder and fermented cabbage, dehydrate it for two full days, grind it up and create a tasty powder you can smell a few rooms over.  Then we blend it with ground and dried Just Salt, a hint of onion powder and a pinch of Gochugaru.  

The result? It's got the tanginess of real kimchi, plus a gentle heat to tantalize the taste buds, followed by an earth umami flavor.   It's the iconic kimchi flavor you can take anywhere.  

We love to use this salt in Perfect Eggs with Josu Kimchi Salt.

What does it mean to be mineral-rich?

While ordinary table and kosher salts are made up of 100% sodium chloride, our salts contain a range of minerals essential for good health. Our traditional and natural process results in a precious Korean grey salt, that boasts some of the highest concentrations of calcium, potassium, and magnesium of any edible salt in the world.

What is cheonilyeom salt?

Cheonilyeom translates quite literally to "Sky-Day-Salt" and describes the traditional process for making Korean salt that we still use to this day - using only the sun and sea.

    Kimchi heaven

    Smells exactly like kimchi, and added to hoisin makes an excellent dipping sauce. You can't go wrong with this salt!

    Need to spice up your pantry? Try the Kimchi or Spicy Ramen Salt

    The Spicy Ramen Salt and Kimchi salt are now things I will always need to have in my pantry. Not only are they delicious on everything (one of them+Parmesan cheese are my go to’s for saving a bland/disappointing meal), but sometimes I eat just a tiny bit of the salt plain to satisfy my craving for something tangy or filled with umami. I got my mom the 5-year-salt and so far her favorite thing to do with it is to put it on top of her homemade bagels! I was a little disappointed in the mushroom salt. So far it seems to just disappear in everything I’ve put it in, but the kimchi and spicy ramen salts are now necessities for my pantry!

    Yum! Great on everything. Adds a bit of kimchi flavor to all you use it with. Got an extra to share with our granddaughter, she better hurry up and get it! It's that good. Eggs, fried rice, salads, veggies...

    Josu Salts are FANTASTIC!

    I have ordered from Josu twice now and will continue to do so! I have the kimchi, garlic & chive, cinnamon, dill pickle, and the aged 5-year salts. They are all so great! My favorite are the kimchi and the aged 5-year. I'm dying to try the citrus salt though so if you bring it back, let a girl know ;) I love the unique flavors-- that's absolutely what drew me to them-- and have been wowed by the quality!
